ABDUCTION CHARGES.

The preliminary hearing of the charges in connection with the attempted abduction of Mumtaz Begum has commenced at Bombay, Nine officers of police and State troops of Indore, and also the Adjutant-General, are charged with attempting to kidnap Mumtaz Begum, and murder her lover, Bawla. Mumtaz Begum, in evidence, said that she was 22 years old, and was brought up as a singing girl. She went to Indore at the request of the Maharajah, and was'his mistress for ten years. She accompanied him to England after her daughter was born and died, but left him and lived at various places, where she was constantly followed by the Maharajah’s spies, urging her to return. She recapitulated the details of the various attempts to kidnap her and murder Bawla.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
DEVELOPMENT OF PLOT.
(Received Saturday, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, Friday.
On tlie resumption of the Begum case, relatives gave evidence of the tracing of the development of the plot to abduct Mumtaz Begum. They said that in furtherance thereof Indoreites offered Bawla’s watchman a bribe of two thousand rupees to leave the doors unfastened to enable them to carry off Mumtaz Begum. The ex-manager of the Indore State properties at Bombay deposed that he learned one accused went by train to Indore on the night of the murder in a great hurry. lie also said that a telegram was sent to the Maharajah’s aide-de-camp stating that one person was killed, four wounded and one arrested. —Aus. and N.Z.
