HIGH SCHOOL.

FENCING THE GROUNDS. A special meeting of the board was held yesterday afternoon to consider tenders for fencing, etc. The Rev. G. T. Brown presided, and others present were Messrs W. T. Grundy, G. E. Daniell, T. Jordan and 0. N. C. Pragnell In reply to Mr Tennent, the architect (Mr J. A. Munnings) wrote that it would not be possible to prepare additional copies of the plans in time for use before th e tenders for building closed, and advising that the date for closing should be extended a week. Mr Tennent explained that the town clerk had told* him that there were so many prospective tenderers that it was impossible to supply them all with copies unless the time was extended. Mr Grundy moved, and Mr Jordan seconded, that the time for closing the tenders be extended a week—to July 24th.

This was carried. v Nineteen tenders were received for fencing 50 chains at the school site, and removing and re-erecting old fencing. The secretary was instructed to accept one of the lowest two tenders. The only tender received for the supply of fencing material was one from H. J. Byford, totalling £66 4s 6d, and this was accepted. With reference to accident insurance for casual workers, the secretary was instructed to take out the policy of £2OO with the State Office. Following the meeting, Mr Tennent made enquiries about the tenders for fencing", and accepted A. Binnie’s offer —7s per chain for new fencing, and 10s per chain for removing and re-erecting fencing already up. This was the lowest tender, the highest being a flat rate of 18s 9d.
