Referring to the Wairarapa-Tlawke’s Bay representative match at Napier, the football writer in the Hawke’s Bay Herald says:— The visitors, when they took the field, had a smart, active appearance, and on the day’s play gave a more finished performance than the home sffie. The backs combined better, and the forwards, led by the busy winger, Donald, worked hard from start to finish. It' was not their fault that the fortunes of the day wont against them. Devine, Bacon and Desmond were the most conspicuous. It was well that the home tackling and smothering were so effective. Of the backs, Booth, Carson.and Southgate were the best. The fullback (Gundy) was a bit weak. -Although Hawke’s Bay’s win was extremely lucky, in .that Knowles missed the easiest of chances to place a goal in the last minute of the game, honours were about easy from the luck point of view, as a try obtained by each side was disallowed for an infringement, either of which had it stood might materially have affected the position. ,
