Tim annual report for the season 1921 states, inter alia: — In submitting the annual report for the year 1921, your committee considers the past season the most important in the history of the Union, for the reason rhat the public interest in the game, and the large number of players taking part in the game, have never previously been equalled. The visit of the South African footballers caused a Treat revival of public interest in the game. We regret the standard oi play in the senior grade is not what it should be considering our players have met thb best teams in New Zealand. It appears as if the lessons taught are not taken heed of, or our players arc not capable of improvement. The. New South Wales team visited Wairarapa, and gave a display of Rugby as it should be played, although the poor performance of the local team mac e their task easy. “Jim’.’ Donald was again chosen in the North. Island representative team, and also in the - A Blacks.” playing in two of the three tests against the Springboks lour committee, desires to congratulate Air Donald on his distinction. The season Is representative programme was the biggest ever earied out by the TJ nion, th? “A” team playing Hawke s Bay (home and home), Horowhem/a, Otago, Canterbury, Wanganui. Manawatn, Bush (home and home), and Southland, winning si:;, losing three, and drawing one. The games against South Africa and New South Wales were also lost, the “B” team played Southern Hawke s Ba'- and also toured Nelson, Marlborough and Golden Bay, the latter-game bein'* their only win. The junior representative team also toured Wellington Nelson and Marlborough, winning all ’three games, the return game with Wellington at Featherston being lost. Home and home games with the Bush were also won. Games played sir, won five, lost one. The club competitions resulted as follows:—Seven-aside, senior, United; seven-a-side junior,United; senior championship, Masterton; . junior .championship, Dalefield; third-class championship, Carterton; fourth-class championship, Masterton; Redmond Cup, Gladstone; Cobcroft Cup, Grevtown; Pearson Cup, Grcytown. The balancesheet discloses the finances of the Union to be in an excellent position, and it is to be hoped that what has .taken wears to build up will never be spent recklessly, in view of the fact that a 0-round is to be purchased m the near future. The prospects for the coming season are good. The French International team will visit the Dominion, and it is hoped Wairarapa will be included in the tour. The senior team is due to tour Horowhenua, Manawatu, Wanganui, Taranaki and Hawke s I Bay this season. Visits are expected from South Canterbury, Nelson, Marlborough, Golden Bay'. Hawlce’s Bay, Southern Hawke 's' Bav. A New Zealand team will tour Africa in 1923. Should Wairur apa players have any idea of being included in that- combination they will have to make a special study of the three great factors that go to make good footballers, viz., combination, condition, and common sense. Players .in other, centres can do it, why not W airarapa? The players must answer this. The accident fund show's a good credit, after paying out £lO9 Ss lOd in claims.
