Tlie New York World’s Sail .Francisco correspondent states that Ar* buckle has revealed that his private fortune has gone as the result of the tremendous expenditure on his defence. He received an ornately decorated cheque-book on the occasion of his »sth birthday. He said ruefully: “I have not enough money now to write one cheque, much less a whole book lull.” Arbucklo was formerly a lavish spender, living in extreme luxury, but at the present time he is living quietly. —Aus. and N.Z.
