RUSSIA AND THE ALLIES.

According to a cable to-day (he Allied experts’ conference recommend that the Soviet be recognised immediately after the Genoa Conference.. To those who are prepared to take a commonsense view of the Russia position this decision must cause amusement. The Allies have been trading with Russia for about two years now. All attempts by Deniken and other military adventurers to upset the form of Government in Russia failed, and the Allies, Britain taking the lear, have resumed unofficial relations with Russia, though France has made an outward showing of being against the official recognition of the Soviet Government. France cannot altogether be blamed for not doing so, as the Russian form of Government has for its basis militarism and despotism of the worst kind, and it is anti-Dcmo-cratie and anti-Labour. It is a difficult matter for a democratic country like Franco to have close relations with a Russia which, during the Soviet regime, lias been controlled by Junkers and militarists of the German type. Russia has defied the world and there appears to be no prospect at present of changing the form of Government, therefore, the Allies must accept the position and officially recognise Russia. But it is sheer humbug to elaborately „ 0 jt the business of recognising Russia when, the Abies have been tradin'- with her for-two years or more.
