UNEMPLOYMENT.
POSITION OF WOMEN. LONDON, Tuesday. A conference of unemployed women, under the auspices of the Trades Union Congress, resolved in favour of greater Government assistance. The speakers declared it was impossible for single girls to live on the 12s weekly unemployment allowance. . A member of the Actresses’ Association declared that 4000 out of 6000 members of the Association were une> ployed, and with no prospect of getting work. Another resolution protested against attempts to utilise the industrial depression to force women into domestic service, regardless of their suitability. The mover said that domestics were treated like slaves. —Reuter.
