MYSTERIOUS EXPLOSION.
HOUSES RATTLED. ALARMING EXPERIENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TE AWAMUTU, This Day. As the Main Trunk express frosty Auckland, at 11 -o’clock last night, approached the To Awamutu station, &. loud explosion startled- the neighbourhood. The engine at the time was crossingthe Mangapiko stream bridge a few hundred yards north of the station yard; and the explosion extinguished the engine light. A The express instantly stopjWl, out as no damage was done it was able to proceed on its journey, after a few minutes’ investigation. There is a small mark on one rail on the bridge, bufc otherwise there is no sign of damag% or the cauee of the explosion. Ther police are investigating the plosion, which was heard three milesaway. ' .! Houses nearby were rattled. ,
