THE REPARATIONS

WIESBADEN ACREEMENT. BRITISH TREASURY SUPPORTPress Association—Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Monday, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, Sunday. It is understood that opinion in Treasury circles is that there is little likelihood of there being any revenue from the German payments for a decade; therefore the Wiesbaden agreement promises the only channel for reparations, the proceeds of which will go to France. It is believed that if Britain does not claim for the present her percentage, it would create a good impression in France and enable the latter to favourably consider the moratorium or other scheme for the relief of Germany. —Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn. A STRONG REMINDER. PARIS, Friday. The Reparations Commission to-day sent the German Government a strong reminder of the necessity for finding the money for the January'-February payments,* and urges Germany to make every possible effort to obtain the amount in foreign exchange, either from her own nations, who notoriously have such foreign exchange at their disposal, or from the foreign lenders.

Thc Commission is convinced that the German difficulties are financial rather than economic, and arc in a great measure due to the fact that the German Government failed to take timely steps to balance the Budget; consequently it is necessary to increase the note issue.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.

GERMAN IMPUDENCE. MORATORIUM DEMANDED. PARIS, Saturday. The Petit Parisian states that the German Government has decided formally to demand a moratorium. The demand will be made immediately if the international loan which Germany needs for the January payment is refused. Should the loan be granted, the demand will be made at the end of January.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
