To-night the Prince.-.was the guest at: the Governor-General’s official dinner and subsequent ,ball ifr the Town Hail. The city and harbour are ablaze with illuminations. The whole city portion of the royal route is like a fairy palace, colured lights festooning each side of the streets. The public and other buildings are outlined with lights and carry many beautiful designs. • The streets are packed with parading humanity. The warships and other vessels in the harbour stand out in their fiery dressing against the background of dark water, making a brilliant spectacle, with the searchlights playing over all. Among the incidents of 4he Prince s landing was a flight of airmen, including Sir Ross Smith, all circling low ox er the landing place. One machine at a height of .‘SOO feet met with engine trouble and got out of control. The pilot, however, managed to plane into the harbour, where the crew was rescued.
During the procession Mr Hughes had a mixed reception. He was occasionally greeted with cheers, but for the most part he was hooted, the public taking tlio opportunity to signify their disapproval of the recent “salary grab.'’ The Lord Mayor also came in for hooting in connection with, his omission of the loyal toast at the Town Hall receptin to Dr. Mannix. TO VISIT PARIS. , PARIS, Wednesday. It is reported that the Prince of Wales will visit Paris at the conclusion of his Australasian tour.
