BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the M'astertou Borough Council was held lasievening, there being present: —The Mayor (Mr IV. 11. .Jackson), Crs. Watson, Perry, Atkinson, King, McLeod. Henderson, O'Leary, Burridge and Candy. Mr A. T. Gordon wrote, asking for a schedule for taxi charges. Mr Gordon stated that on a recent morning he had been charged fis from Tararua street to the Masterton railway station by a taxi-driver whose number lie forwarded. The Council decided to forward a copy of the letter to the taxi-driver concerned.

The Progress League wrote requesting the Council to form a by-law in regard to taxi and cab stands, and the “parking” of cars. It was decided, on the motion of Cr. Henderson, seconded by Cr. O'Leary, to" reply that the Council already had the matter in hand. - It was decided that a contract for five years for the removal of the offal at the borough abattoirs be granted to Messrs Kemball and Hilton.

The Council decided to take steps to carry out the engineer's report in connection with certain repairs at the abattoirs. Cr. Candy moved that tlic town clerk be requested to bring down a scheme in connection with the financing of the work. The Mayor suggested that it would be betted to appoint a committee to go into the question. Tliis was adopted, and Crs. Candy, Perry, Henderson and the Mayor were appointed a sub-committee. A letter ivas received* from Messrs Judd and Bussell in connection with the widening of Villa street. A committee was appointed to make a report in connection with the matter.

The Mayor intimated that it was necessary to raise the overdraft to £14,000." It was quite a formality, and he did not think that the bankers would have any objection to going over the £IO,OOO limit. He moved in this direction.

This was seconded by Cr. Henderson and declared carried.
