WELLINGTON, Thursday, j A special meeting of the New- Zealand employers’ Federation, convened for the purpose of considering the best means to adopt, for promoting industrial peace, was continued-in camera to-day. ; After discussion a sub-committee ’tais set up' to crystallise ’ the opinions q'f delegates and its report' as adopted’is expressed, in the following resolutions: “That this meeting,jafter a full, discussion! of the industrial position - in New Zealand to-day, recommends tlie following conclusions for the eoiisideration by employers'and workers’ organisations and the public generally in the hope that,, they may eventually form a basis 0f.,, a friendly discussion and possible negotiations for promoting ’industrial peace. ' ■ .' ■•• ■'" " ; ■' ; (1) That in view of tlie announced aims and intentions of. prominent sections of official labour, it is r the opinion of this meeting,.that,,a, national conference between representatives of • capital and organised labour would be futile. (2) In order to prepare the way for the establishment of more friuedly relations and a better mutual understanding, are recommended to get into, closer touch' with their own employees by the establishment of Workshop committee meetings with employees, personal inquiry into grievances, consideration of suggestions, aiid bv such of hey means as may be’deemed desirable. (;S) That employers lie recommended to encourage educational proptijranda in their own establishments in .connection with matters affecting the common interests of both employers and workers, with a view to combating the prevalence of unsound eco nomic theories. Such means are, suggested as workship committees,, staff meetings, circulation of informative literature, short talks, discussion is, etc. (4) That earliest consideration should be given to the adoption of a system of payment by results ( (either by means of 1 piecework, premium, oi bonus systems, or profit-sharing and superannuation funds) as may be beqjt applicable to each particular ; business. ’* , (5) That the Government should be .recommended to provide bymeans ' of national taxation adequate provision for unemployment and invalidity insurance. -I -v., •• • . ■ ■ ; (6) Encourairementand assistance to be given by the Government to worPeys to build and purchase their iown houses.
