ENTERTAINMENTS.

PARAMOUNT THEATRE.

An excellent programme now showing at the Paramount includes Alice Brady in a modern portrayal of “Jane Eyre!” In her sympathetic delineation of her much-suffering heroine, Miss Brady rises to a high rank as one of our leading emotional actresses. Jane Eyre is a poor girl who travels over a long rocky road before she finally wins to her haven of happiness. First as a “poor relation” among coldhearted relatives, later as an inmate of an institution for orphans under a criiel supervisor-, and lastly as a governess to the child of the man she loves and who loves her —even here she lmds a seeminglv insuperable obstacle to happiness. ' A kind fate finally" intervenes, and after many privations and sorrows she is united with hci true lover. “Woman and Wife” is a picture play forthy to revive your memories of the heroine of “Jane Eyre,” whom vou recall with such deep affecton and Alice Brady 's characterisation of the luckless girl will endear her to you. A good two-act comedy and a further episode of ‘ i Wolves of Ivultur are also showing.

COSY THEATRE.

If you have a taste for risky experiments try monkeying with the marriage system and watch for results. They soon began to arrive. That is what Suzanne Ercolle did when . she married Foxcroft Grey on condition that the union was to be a Saturday to Monday business, all matrimonial impossibilities being declared off during the week, each party going off to town, fancy free. Hubby didn't like the idea, but being a fairly deep young man he gave in, and so stage-managed the affair till' wlfey was glad to call it off- How he did it is told in the bright little comedy-drama from the Select Studios, s-tniiing pi quanto and vivacious Connie Talmadge as the wife. Connie has a part altogether to her liking and the play goes with a real swing. The last chapter of “Stingaree” and the third episode of “The Lightning Raider” provide plenty of excitement.
