RESERVED JUDGMENTS GIVEN. At the Masterton S.M. Court this morning, Mr S. L. P. Free, S.M., g av e w''judgment in some licensing cases. T * Erick Tenney had been charged with having kept, liquor for sale in the nolieense district of Masterton. The Mag- . istrate held that the quantity of liquor . found in defendant’s possession was not greater than he could legitimately make use of, although his manner of giving evidence was unsatisfactory.The information must be dismissed. John James Oliver, the li«eensee of the Taueru Hotel, • had beer charged with (1) liquor, (2) keeping open his preflfruises after hours.—The police evidence ▼ was to the effect .that they saw persons ~.jn the premises and glasses in the room, -and that liquor which arrived in Masterton by motor was alleged to have been sold after hours. —The Magistrate was satisfied that this liquor was sold before closing hours, and that the glass- /' -es in the room were for liquor sold to persons lawfully on the premises. Although the front door was not locked, . ■’'this was not in itself an offence. Both informations would be dismissed. On 1 eharge of sending liquor into the nolicense district of Masterton not pio•perly labelled (to effect' that parcel -contained liquor), the Magistrate held that a cardboard label attached by a • .string was not sufficient. Ihe w ords . should be written or printed, on the parcel. Defendant was convicted and fined 40s with costs 7s.
