HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME.

The statement made by the Minister for Public Works in regard to the supply of electric power from the Mangahao .hydro-electric scheme does not make very pleasant reading from a Wairarapa point of view. The present allocation of power cuts the Wairarapa right out of the scheme, thanks to the bungling of individuals who have been pursuing what may yet prove to be a will o’ the wisp in the shape of the Waiohine scheme. Rut it is satisfactory to note that the Minister recognises that Masterton has a legitimate claim in the matter, and that ho is determined we shall not be robbed of our rights in regard to the Mangahao scheme, is emphasised by the fact that he is going into the matter of Masterton's position, and will make a statement later. It is apparent from the Minister ’s remarks that the present allocation is not a definite one, and that he intends lo review the matter with the evident object of providing some power for this district. Masterton stands a chance of being robbed of its electricity through the selfish policy of certain individuals who favour the decidedly risky Waiohine scheme; Masterton ’s hope of obtaining what .is its due in regard to hydro-electricity from a sound scheme depends now upon the Minister for Public Works.
