OBITUARY.

— l*l it p, G. MOORE. The news of the death of Mr F. G. ALuore, which occurred about 1 o’clock vesterday morning, will be received with feelings of deep regret throughout the whole of the Wairarapa. Though he had beed in ill-health for some considerable time past, the late Air Moore attended to his duties to the last/ being at. the office right up til! Saturday last. Late on Saturday evening serious heart symptoms showed themselves, which terminated fatally about I o’clock on Sunday morning. " Deceased was held in very high esteem by a wide circle of friends. Ho was truly one of “nature’s _ gentlemen ” most courteous and obliging to all, and always ready to extaui s.-:»- L ‘p-uliy and help to those in trouble. His sterling qualities - endeared him to all who knew 1 him, and his death will Le keenlv felt. Tue late Mr Moore was the second son of Iho late Rev. L. Moore (retired Afrnor. sth Madras Light Cavalry). He was bom ou the Neilgherry Hills, ->iadias Presidency, India, on October 3rd, IS Id. He was educated at Rossall Hall, Lancashire, England, and arrived at A! ell on rue in February, 1860, ami m New Zealand in November, 1852. Tie joined the Native Department under his brother-in-law (the late Sir John Garst ) at Te Awamutu; was present wiwn Ecwi, with an armed force, took possession of the printing press and removed it to Kihikihi, and was the last Eunpean but one to leave the Waikato before the. war of 18tW. He w ts on tiie staff of the late Sir George Grey wren the latter was Governor of Now Zealand, from 18(53 to IStiti, and accompanied him on the AVest Coast expedition in the latter year. The late Atr Moore was associate to the late Chief Justice, Sir George Arnev, from 18(59 to 1871. when lie purchased a share in the Glenburn station. Disposing of his interest therein in 1878, he took up. his residence in Master ton, ami became clerk to the Masterton County Council in 1883, a position he has continuously held ever since. Deceased was probably the most capable local body clerk; in the Dominion. Methodical to a degree in his work, the official books were a picture of accuracy and neatness. No person in New Zealand had a better grasp o£ local body law than the late Mr Moore. For maiiv years he was choirmaster off SI. Matthew’s choir, and his splendid ■voice was heard on numerous occasions in the Liedertafel and at local concerts. In his younger days he was a keen cricketer, being one of the best all-round players Wairarapa has seen.

The deceased was married in 1872 to Miss Kate Mureli, the youngest daughter of the late Airs Murch, of Wellington. He leaves a family of four sons and three daughters. The sons are Alessrs O. (now resident in Madras), Percy (Masterton), Eidon and Calvert (Wellington), and the daughters Misses Norah. AYinif rod and Dorothy Afoore. The relatives will have tbo sympathy of the whole community in their bereavement. The funeral took place this afternoon. and was largely attended.
