MASTERTON CLUB. Those in charge of tin* arrangements in connection with the MastertonAuc.kland telegraphic match scheduled to commence on Saturday evening,were somewhat dubious about the possibility of holding the match, considering last week’s -developments.. * Nevertheless, everything was prepared in readiness in case the Department should still allow the wire to be:used. Advice was received by the local postmaster, hovvever, soon after noon, that owing to the congestion, permission to' use the wire was reluctantly withdrawn. It is hoped that a start may be possible next Saturday evening/ play continuing on the 15th in place of original dates. Although the Auckland match was off, players 'decided not to be. .denied a game altogether, and a social even—. ing was hurriedly arranged as a substitute, a most enjoyable time being spent. A sides match, under the .respective captaincies of -Messrs Paul Hummer and J. A. Connell, resulted in the following scores: —- -' : ’

Amongst the visitors present was Airs Arnot, of Lansdownc, also a number of old members and •clie?s enthusiasts, drawn; to the rooms in the hope of seeing the opening spars with Auckland. . .. The Y.M.C.A. kindly placed their buffet at the disposal of jVErs Clemas, who looked after the members and visitors ’ creature comforts with her usual care. '... !
