One of the vessel’s officers states that he considers the mishap was due to the heavy rainfall and the current ;runniug: through Banks Strait rendering’it impossible to fix the ship’s posi:tion'accufately. ' Had’ they touched one ■of ithe twp rocks which ..they must have passed within a few feet, there would ■have bej?n little left of the ./.Westralia .'{ind:\few of the .crew or passengers left to tell the tale under the conditions which prevailed.'
