The Basic Wage Commission is piling up evidence of the scarcity of houses in the metropolitan area, which are practically unprocurable, (though big bonuses are offered. \ There has been a big advance in rent and in the prices of land and houses, and instances have been given where both the latter have doubled since 1914.
