TEE MEAT TRADE.

REPORT OF COMMITTEE

(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Associati »») V LONDON, Monday.

The Committee on Meat recommends diplomatic action to remove the restrictions on importation of Dominion jrneat into foreign countries, also that Government contracts should be conlined to the producers of the United Kingdom and the Dominions. The Committee is not prepared to recommend a proposal to stimulate production in the Dominions by subsidy, but the question should be discussed when the question of tariffs, bounties and subsidies under the general trade policy is being considered. The Committee recommends a continuance of organisation similar to the Eefrigerated Tonnage Committees. The Committee on Currency and Fc-t----oign Exchange, in its final report, statf s ?_< ' The depreciation in sterling value in New York is largely due to the expanded state of credit in Britain. The large payments we have to make to America for necessary imports make it es.seutial that we should secure payment in cash for as large a proportion of our exports as possible. We, therefore, recommend that we give preference to exports to countries able to pay in the ordinary course of trade. The first esHcntials* to the recovery of exchange are increased production, the cessation of Government borrowing, and decreased expenditure by the Government and individuals. ,.
