ENTERTAINMENTS.

COSY THEATRE,

A BIG NIGHT'S FUN,

Large crowds were unable to gain admittance to the Cosy Theatre last evening, the attraction being the splendid threie<-star programme being shown. Circumstantial evidence has convicted many men and women. Some have gone to their death with the cry of innocence on their lips. Others have eventually been cleared. A case of na-tion-wide interest, in which, a man was convicted of murder solely 'on circumstantial evidence, and later lynched when friends sought to help him, is that of Leo Frank, manager of a pencil factory m Atlanta. Frank was a New York man, and had made an enviable business record. . One day the body of Mary Phagan, a 16-year-old employee of the factory, was found in the basement of the building. She had been brutally slain. Frank was in the building at the time. . A negro gave damaging evidence, but he changed his story so often that little credence was given to it by leading lawyers of the country. William Farnum, who plays tho stellar role in "For Freedom," is convicted of attempted murder because the villian's revolver was found near the spot Farnum was attacking the villian. In addition a most amusing Cunshine comedy, "Virtuous Husbalids," brought the house down with laughter. Other interesting pictures make up a big evening's entertainment.

PARAMOUNT THEATRE,

Quite an excellent programme was the general verdict of the large audience at the Paramount Theatre last evening, when two big star attractions were shown. First of all "Broken Threads" is a British production with an all-British cast —a story laid in England and carrying the atmosphere of England in every foot of it. This picture will be welcomed for that fact —and because of its simple charm and convincing story. The acting strikes a different note—the performers are real men and women —not merely actors —the story is unfolded with a clearness and naturalness that is pleasing —and the many scenes of beauty and charm, particularly in the caves and fields of Devonshire, will delight the eye of everyone. The picture play was written and .produced by Henry Edwards, a well-known English playwright and actor; and the author himself plays the leading male part in the picture", Jack Desmond, known to the little country village as "Dippy. ,, . Miss Chrissie White ha s the part of Helen, the wife of Desmond. "His Royal Highness, ,, the World feature, is a rigbt royal entertainment. Carlyle Blackwell and Evelyn Greeley are the stars, and both have fascinating roles. This programme will be shown again tonight.
