THE MAID AND LOVERS FOUR
(Without apologies.)
A simple maid from Masterton Was wooed by lovers four, Young Archie, George and Willie 8., And Sandy Mac so dour.
Said Georgio, "I have loved thee well For eight long years or more. If thou shouldn't turn me down, sweet maid, 'Twill make my heart full sore."
Quoth Archie C., '' You are the lass I've long had in my eye; For you my heart is nigh to- burst With many a heavy sigh."
Pleads Willie 8., "Such love as mine Has ne 'er been known before, Ami if you'll wed me, gentle maid, I'll love thee more and more."
Said Sandy Mat-, "I hae n 0 cash, But what ye hae we'll share, And I will raise your wages, lass — What man could offer mair?"
The maiden coyly raised her head, With mischief in her eye. To each of these fond lovers 'Twas thus she made reply.
"Oh, Archc, for your bursting heart My grief I cannot smother. I cannot wed thee, lad, but you (Jan be my dearest "brother."
' < And, Willie 8., you are for me, A little aged, rather, But still, to me, you'll always be A dear beloved 'father.'
"Know, Sandy Mac, such loves as thine I reckon by the dozen, So in the future years to be I'll let you be my 'cousin.'
She turned to George, "Oh, dearest one, My old love and the best, i feel that with such love as thine, That I am truly blest.
"So, take me, dear, and let me he Your sweetheart and your wife. And Square Bill will our union bless, And keep us all his life."
And they will wed, for Billie G. Will join them pretty soon, And then they go to Wellington To spend their honeymoon.
