DR. VALINTXNE INTERVENES

Tho Hospital Board received letters to-day from Dr. Valintino regarding the board's termination of the contract with Miss Thurston, matron, wdo was given leave of absence to go to England on war service. Dr. -Valiutine considered that Miss Thurston would be justified in demanding an explanation of the action, which was practically a. summary dismissal of an officer who had rendered splendid service to the Christchurch Hospital. The department was entirely in sympathy with Miss Thurstou, and was bound t<i protect the interests of those, who had gone abroad on war service. Several members of the board objected to Dr. Valintine 'a intervention, claiming that tho board had control of staff matters. Tho letters were received.
