UNUSUAL CASE.
/ ALLEGED ILLICIT DEALINGS

DUNEDIX, Wednesdaj-. An unusual case was outlined in the
Police Court to-day, when Joseph French was charged with obtaining £153 by false pretences.
It was stated by the police that the accused represented himself as a single man, and obtained various sums'from
a widow under a promise of marriage. The alleged purposes for which the money was obtained were for lawyer's expenses in connection with his mother's fictitious death, the purchase of a wedding cake, to repay borrowed money, etc. The case was adjourned to enable- witnesses for the defence to bo called.
