EVIDENCE AT INQUEST.

An inquest was opened last night before tin' Coroner regarding the death of Ernest Tyler, alias Jack Jones, who was I'ouud dead on the railway line on Saturday morning, with three leather bags beside him, containing forty-eight bottles of whiskey. The deceased wa,s si bushfellor, lil years of age, born in Tasmania, ana married. It is .not known where- his wife is. The deceased had been eighteen years in the Dominion, and was defendant in a court case on last eouri; day, charged with having liquor for sale, but the case was adjourned till Monday, February :s.lst. He went to Auckland on Thursday night, and returned on Friday night, lie was soon near Ongarue to leave a carriage with one bag, and failed to return. The police were on the look-out for him at Taumarunui. It is believed he fell on the signal wires and rebounded against the train. His face was terribly smashed. It has been thought for some time that whisky was being dropped from moving trains near Taumarunui. The inquest was adjourned till Thursday.
