VERY VIOLENT FIGHTING.
(Australia and N.Z. Cable Association and Router.) LONDON, Tuesday, French official: During the day there was very violent fighting on the whole front north of the Marne. The enemy, whose resistance has strongly increased, disputed every foot of ground and attempted to drive us back by numerous counter-at-tacks. We repulsed all assaults and made a further advance on the outskirts of the village of Euzancy. The Scottish captured the Park and Chateau and maintained their positions despite repeated German assaults. East of Plcssier Hulen and Oulchy le Chateau, we passed the Chateau Thierry road and captured Grand Rozoy and Cugny, also Bu,tte de Chalmpnt after a brilliant action north of Fere-en-Tardenois. We extended our gains and entered Sergy, further south. Boncheres fell into our hands on the right. We passed tlie Borraans-Rheims road, south of Villers. We gained ground west of Bligny and St. Euphraise. A German attack in the Champagne region, to the east of RheiEHs and south of Mont-Sans-Nom., failed.
