DESCRIPTIVE LADIES' FASHIONS. It is really superfluous to r e mind our friends that Fashion in all branches continues under restrain- Simplicity and economy are the 1 ■a-llug features. Long overcoats aro timely for early spring when weather conditions are not always congenial. Tho latest skirts are pre-eminently plain; straight hanging, without flare, and not wide, 2\ to 2$ yards is considered ample. They are made with side gathers, or with flatly pressed pleats, front and back even on the figure. These with panels, or lengthway strapping prreseve tho straight silhouette effect. The narrow hobble skirt of a few seasons ago is not likely to revive, notwithstanding that some new shapes show a diminished width at hem. But all extreme and absurd notions find no place at present. The wrap-over seam in front is noticeable. Coats express the same practical ideas. They are mostly of full half, or three-quarter length. Collars are made deep, and long lapels with open fronts are booked for spring. Trimmings, when not of same material which is often the case, are of satin, silk and cloth. The -after is favoured if thin, such as Kasha. All such in colours to matcn or to contrast. Leading fabrics are Tweeds, including Irish Highland, and a rough homespun known as "Blighty Tweeds," Serges and gabcord. Such are the designs tailored at Masterton 's leading Tailoring Establishment —Alex Donald's, Queen Street, who supplies the above notes, and will bo pleased to talk over matters with ladies looking for the best in costumes, and a select choice of cloths to choose from.
