Jeanette Gontreau is a New York stenographer anxious to do her "bit." She writes to throe young Allied soldiers, held in German prison camps, whose names she has obtained at the Red Cross headquarters. One of her letters accidentally falls into tho hands of Harry Lcdyard, one of the three prisoner's, and is scorched by ilaincs. It discloses a secret message. Ledyard 's release is effected, and his return to .America throws .Jeanette into a panic, for she has made her letters entirely too personal. Instigated by Armstrong and k Mrs Tibbets, sho \ disguises herself as an old lady, and receives him at her home. Lcdyard has communicated his suspicions to the Government, and detectives call to investigate while he is visiting thestonographer. Harry experiences a. change of ('heart, and claims later that he himself has written the hidden message. Facing the chief of detectives, however, Harry conveys his real suspicions, and a trap is* laid for Armstrong, who is taken off his guard and confesses. Ledyard. learns .leannctte is not an old lady, but a charming girl, and takes her in his arms.
