'-hooked materials, linen ami thin summer cloth, with excellent results, indeed, tho very smartest wrapcont seen this summer was* made of mi-vy blue sorgo and lined throughout with black and white i-hoi'kod cashmere. The coat and skirt usually worn are of the sports order, and quite simple iv outline. At the extreme hem the skirt measures one yard and three-quarters, and at the waist it is set into little flat pleats which prove becoming to the figure. The coat is frankly sweater, with an immens'o roll collar, faced with checked material. This collar could lie flat on the shoulders if desired, and when in this position the checked face looks like a decorative band. The model would bo charming if copied in soft navy bluo serge, with the pockets and so forth in some thin black and white checked stuff, or in black and white linen. This year wo shall see plaid materials of all sorts in use. Already tho Paris tailors are using important-looking plaids which have stripes of green, yellow and red, or several shades of deep bluo, combined with black and white stripes. These stuffs aro skilfully combined with plain cloth or with twilled gabardare and flat buttons of brightcoloured horn adorn the fronts of the coats. The season is now approaching for costumes- and ladies of this district should inspect the cloths and styles now being shown at Alex.
