Among tho many New Zealanders killed on the western front during the month of October was Captain George Saywell, of the Salvation Army. Up to the time of his leaving on military duty he had completed eleven years' service a 8 an officer in tin; field ajid social work of the Army. Sir .Tames* Allen (Minister for Defence) spent a busy day on Sunday visiting the different military hospitals and convalescent homes in and near Auckland. Private R. W. Langdon, of Tenui, who had been previously reported wounded, is now reported missing and believed kill'd. He enlisted with the 2-ith Reinand left New Zealand early in April. The late Private Langdon was the eldest son of the late Mr J. S. Langdon, of Larchbank, Tenui, and Mrs Langdon. He was a man of fine intellect, 0 and was educated at Ngapokatu State School and at Wanganui Collegiate School. Being of a mechanical turn of mind, he joined the staff of Messrs C. E. Daniell and Sons, with whom he remained until the time of his enlistment. He was 32 years of ago at the time of his death. A man of amiable disposition, his death is deeply regretted by all those who were acquainted with him. A mother, four sisters a,nd two brothers mourn his loss, besides numerous other relatives.
