BITTER ATTACKS.

VIOLENT SCENES IN GERMAN REICHSTAG.

(Received Friday, at 9.45 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, Thursday A story debate took place in the Reichstag. ,

The. Conservatives accused Herr yon Bethmann-Hollweg (German Chancellor) of surrounding the Kaiser with a clique of advisers and thus preventing him from learning the people's true wishes.

Herr Helfferich, the new Vice-Chancellor, vehemently retorted, *' The Kaiser's name must not be introduced."

The Conservatives and the National Liberals next bitterly attacked Herr yon Bethmann-Hollweg and Herr yon Jagow (Foreign Affairs) for supinely yielding to America on tho submarine question.

Most of the speeches were accompanied by violent attacks on America and President Wilson. The idea of the latter's mediation is strongly denounced.

The Centre Party applauded the National Liberals' description of President Wilson as the protector of America's ammunition supply and England's starvation of Germany.

Herr yon Graef c, a Conservative, suggested that Herr yon BethmanjiHollweg's speeches and interviews should be censored. The enemy press werei interpreting them as a veiled retreat. The result was that President Wilson, after stifling Germany, is posing as the angel of peace.

Her HeLfferich replied that the abolition of the censorship concerning war aims was impossible.

The Reichstag resolved that the freedom of the press should only be restricted in the interest of a victorious termination of the war.
