An old aud highly respected Masterton resident, in the person of Mrs H. A. Gaz/.ard. of Wrigley Street, died yesterday, at the age of 79 years. The deceased was born in England, and came to New Zealand 40 years ago. .he resided for the greater part of this period in the Taueru district. Her husband died about 16 years ago. The death occurred recently, at Mount Eden, Auckland, of an early pioneer settler, in the person of Mr Wm. Wratten, at the age of 80 years. The deceased came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Montmorenzi, iv the year 1851. After spending several years on the golditelds on the West Coast of the .onth Island, he took up land iv the Wairarapa, Avhere he carried on sheep farming for over .0 years. The late Mr Wratten Avas one of the oldest members of The Foresters' Lodge in Greytown. His Avifc died some two years ago. His youngest daughter died about eighteen months ago, Avhile undergoing an operation. A grown-up family of five survive him.

A farewell Avas tendered to Private Raymond Coleman, son of Mr Chas. Coleman, Cliff Line, Marton, by the residents of that district, says the "'l_ingitikei Advocate." The function was held at Mr A. Coleman's residence, who, assisted by Mrs Coleman and neighbours, entertained more than one hundred guests. The evening AA-as devoted to games, dancing and singing, many friends contributing items.
