The newspapers endorse the abandonment of the Imperial Conference. They
state that the South African states men's hands fire full at present with af
fairs in German South-west Africa
It is understood the Government contemplates a special tax on gold mines on a sliding scale, which will produce £500,000. The Chamber of Mines accepts the principle of the tax.
