Heavy Fighting in the West ■ An official statement from Paris says that the Allies have progressed uortli of Beausejour, and have repulsed the enemy north of Massiges and south of AitH;nch. The Allies' artillery at Woeuvre and in tie Argonne dispersed several convoys. Heavy fighting has jccurred on the Bcthunela Basses li'.ie. According to the cables to-day, a struggle of a titanic nature is taking place between the Russians and Germans at Borjimoff. Military critics declare that the world has never seen such fighting. The methods adopted by the Germans. indicate that success is now a matter of life and death. The Russians have crossed the Bzura river near its mouth, and Taave captured a part of the enemy's positions near Dakowa. An important point has also been seized by the Russians on the left bank of the Bzura. The defeat of the Turkish attack on the Suez Canal has caused a change Ixl public opinion in Cairo, jnaiiy high native dignitaries, who were hitherto pro-Crcn:ir.n, now wholly supporting the British. According to the London Morning Post's Alexandria correspondent, there was considerable surprise when 12,000 Turks reached, the canal lacking a commissariat transport. It is conjectured that the main Turkish army may succeed in crossing the desert. Abdul Hamid, the ex-Sultan, lias advised the Young Turk Party to arrange peace with the Allies.
