News has been received of the death on December lMth, at East London, South Africa, of the South African soldier and politician, Major-General Sir Edward Brabant, who led a colonial division in the Boer war.

Miss Ivy Richmond was admitted to the Wellington hosjiital at 10.40 ji.to. on Saturday, suffering from severe concussion of the brain, the result of a fall while alighting from a tramcar ia Molesworth street-

Mr Otterson, clerk of the House of .Representatives for the last sixteen years, has resigned in order to take np farming in South Africa. It is understood that he will be succeeded by Mr A. T. Lowe, who is at present clerk assistant.

The death is announced by a Press Association cablegram of Lily Dam l'ier, the actress. She was a daughter of the English-Australian actor and manager, Alfred Danipier, and with her sister Rose and iter mother—known to the play-loving public as Kate Russell —played many leading jiurts.
