POISONOUS GASES FROM GERMAN SHELLS

PETROGRAD, Thursday. The Germans, for two days and nights, swept the Russian positions at Borjimoff with six hundred massed guns. From.many of the shells came suffocating gases, covering the trenches with a poisonous pall; hut the Russians were splendidly dug in. Afterwards the Russians charged, assisted by the fire from, quickfirers, with irresistible impetuosity, capturing fourteen guns.
