HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.

The Pepartment of Agriculture, Industries, ami Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner'for New Zealand, dated London, 21st March. (Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot): —

Mutton. —• The market is weaker, though not actually lower. North Island, 4-S-d per lb. The demand has been chiefly for light weight at as high as 4 7-Sd per lb. Heavy weights, 4 l-Bd.

Lamb. —The market is weaker and tendency downward on account of the large supplies coming forward. The weather lately has 5 been very unfavourable to the sale of lamb. There is little demand for Canterbury, as buyers prefer North Island at lower prices. Canterbury twos, per lb, 6 3-8 d; heavy weights, 6 l-Bd. Other than Canterbury, (5:1 d per lb for light weight.

Beef. —The market is very , dull.: Supplies of American chilled beef are large New Zealand hinds, per lb, 4Ad; fores, 'i.-jd.

Butter. Zealand butter stocks have accumulated lately, and holders are disposed to meet buyers at lower prices, as present supplies exceed requirements. Danish, in fair demand, per cwt, 122s to 1245; New Zealand, slow, 100s to 112s; unsalted, 116s to llSs; Australian, market quiet, 106s to 110s; Argentine, market dull, 104s to lOSs; Siberian, market steady, 108s to 110s.

Cheese. —The market is steady, with a. fair business doing. Canadian supply is miming short, but holders are firm. There is a fair demand for New Zealand, and the market is steadier.' Canadian white, per cwt, 68s to 70s; coloured, 70s to 71s; New Zealand, finest white, 62s to 62s (sd; exceptionally iino, 635; fine, 6]s to 61s Gd; finest coloured, 64s 6d to 655; fine, 60S to 63s 6d; Australian white, 62s to 62s 6d; coloured, 63s to 655.

Hemp.—The market is quiet but steady. New Zealand: Good fair, per ton, £25 .10s; fair, £22 10s; April to June shipments, good fair, £25 los per ton; fair, £2:;. Manila: Fair current, per ton, £27; April to June shipments, fair current, £26 10s. The output from Manila for the week was IS,OOO bales.

Peas.—The market is firmer na-d the stock is moderate.

Cocksfoot —There is a better demand for cocksfoot, seed.

Hemp.—The market is steady, with 'i, moderate demand.
