LONDON WOOL SALES.
GOOD COMPETITION.

At the wool sales there is good competition for all qualities at opening" rates. Shabby merinos occasionally barely maintained prices.
The Bank of Now Zealand, London, cabled on January 14th:—Sales opened with large attendance and strong competition. Total New Zealand wool available is 12,000 bales. Market is strong for merino, for which prices are. unchanged. Market strong for all kinds of crossbreds. Prices are par to 5 per cent higher.
Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., havo received the following cablegram from their London house, under date 13th inst.: — There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Homo and Continental buyers beingf active, and prices, as compared with* the close of preceding series, ruled in sellers' favour for crossbred; merino unchanged. The opening catalogues wero fairly representative.
