The Kaiser with the approval of his physicians, is trying manual labour in the gardens at Potsdam, as a cure for stoutness. He saws and splits wood of a suitable size for stoves. The gardener assisting gets the wood as wages.
(The Kaiser has always had a horror of becoming too stout.)
