ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE NORWOODS.

ENJOYABLE ENTERTAINMENT

The Town Hall was well filled last evening, when the Norwoods paid a return visit to Masterton. . The programme submitted was an excellent one in all respects, the audience being kept in roars of laughter at the antics of the "subjects." Professor Norwood, who lias a line stage p/esence, delivered a brief lecture on hypnotic suggestion bofore beginning his performance. Plenty of subjects were forthcoming for the professor to handle. The entertainment was opened with a few minor hypnotic tests such as the endeavouring by the subjects to unlock the hands or make the finger-tips., touch, feats which they were unablo to accomplish. This introductory matter put the audience in a good humour, and as the entertainmetn promised to bo of a clean bright nature, free from vulgarity, those present settled down to enjoy themselves. And judging by the continued roars of laughter they did enjoy themselves. The subjects were compelled to go through many ridiculous antics. One of the best "turns" was in which several subjects imagined they were an orchestra, and played an imaginary accompaniment to the dancing of one of Professor Norwood's own men, who was also under the influence of hypnotism. This man was a very clever dancer, and when the professor woke Mm up, thus bringing his "turn" to a close, the audience applauded loudly for some time. Another good item was a cataleptic test, in which one subject was made rigid and laid across two chairs, several men, weighing in the aggregate over 53 stone, standing upon him without inconveniencing the subject in any way. A very clever exhibition of mental telepathy was given by Miss Norwood, who, having been hypnotised and blindfolded, went through a truly wonderful performance, carrying out a number of suggestions made by members of the audience without a mistake. Altogether the entertainment was an excellent one. An entirely new programme will be submitted tonight, when another large audience should be present.

A very clever blindfold drive was carried out by Professor Norwood yesterday afternoon. At a fnst pace he drove over a course which commenced and terminated at the post office. He also discovered a knife which had been previously hidden by the committee of local residents who had accompanied him on his ride.
