OBITUARY.

DEATH OF MRS ROBERT aiLLIEH,

The death of Mrs Robert Gillies occured at her residence, "Birtley," Parnell (Auckland) on Sunday. The deceased lady was born in London, but arrived in New Zealand when quite a girl, with her parents, Mr and Mrs Charles Street, r_ad also her grandparents, and settled in Otaj/o. i here she married Mr Robert Gillies (a brother of the late Judge Gillies), who was closely connected with the political history of the province, and sat in Parliament as member for Bruce. He also took an active part in educational matters, an interest that was shared by Mrs Gillies, who was one of the founders of the first kindergarten in Dunedin. Mr Gillies died in 1885, and for a number of years Mrs Gillies lived in Parnell. Although an invalid for some years she took a keen interest in many matters, particularly of a charitable nature, and was widely esteemed. She le-ive.: t-vo daughters and four sons: Mr R. C.
