DAILY MAIL CONTEST. Press Association--Electric Telegraph- Copyrichi (Eeceived Tuesday, at 8.55 a.m.) LONDON, Monday. Pickles attempted to resume his journey at five o'clock to-day. He made a short flight, and then dropped into the sea, the plane becoming water-logged. Messrs Pickles and Kauper, avuo accompanied him, were in a perilous position, but they were rescued by boats. Tlie sea plane will be sent back to Southampton in order to commence the fight .again.
A cablegram in yesterday's issue stated that owing to Mr S. F. Cody's death and Mr Radfey's retirement, there were only two competitors for the Daily Mail's sea plane (light round Brittain for a prize of £5000 .to determine whether a. British made engine is equal to the task. Mr Hawker, on a Supwith biplane, and accompanied by A. Kauper, au Anustralian mechanic, left Southampton and reached Yarmouth in four and a-half hours. He averaged a mile a minute. Mr McLean, his risal. is on a Short biplane, equipped with 100----horsc-power Green fixed cyrindical engines; Subsequently Mr Hawker suffered a sunstroke and his place was taken by Mr Pickles.
