STEAMER WRECKED.
MANY LIVES LOST.
Press Association—Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Keceived Tuesday, at 12.50 p.m.) VANCOUVER, Monday. The steamer State of California struck an unchartered rock near Oambicr Bay, Junear, in Alaska, and became a total loss. Twenty five passengers were drowned, the majority while they were asleep. The steamship Jefferson was summoned by wireless, and arrived in time to save forty-two persons. Many of the crew also perished. Some of the passengers were bound to the new gold diggings at Thushauna, where a rich discovery ■ was recently made.
