SALE OF NATIVE LAND.
(By Telegraph. — Press Association.)
DANNEVIRKE, Tuesday,
Litigation of an interesting character is ponding over a Tahoraito native section. J. T. Wilson entered into negotiations with the Natives to purchase 420 acres, got a transfer signed, and paid over £2000 of the purchase price to the Natives. An application for the confirmation of the sale was made to the Ikaroa Natice Land Board. This was gazetted, and the application adjourned. It is alleged that the Maori Land Purchase Board telegraphed to the Native to go to Wellington, bought the land, and paid tho wholo of the purchase price—between £8000 and £{)000, Wilson, who sold his business to pay the Natives, was left moneyless, landless, and without a business. It wan admitted that the Natives did not inform the Maori Land Purchase Board of the transaction with Wilson, and it was alleged that the members of tho Board were aware of it.
Proceedings will be commenced against the Native Land Purchase Board members for allegedly procuring tlu> Natives to break the contract, and signinst the Crown for damages, and also for an injunction against registration of the transfer.
