WILFULLY SET ON FIRE.
{By Telegraph. — Press Association.)
EEEFTON, Wednesday
The inquiry concerning the lire at Mi'Mahon 's stables was resumed today. P. Beilly, who, it is said, offered the horse Comedian for sale, and who left the hotel to visit, allegedly, Comedian 's stall, early on the morning of the fire, deposed that he knew nothing from the time he arrived at Eeefton till Saturday, when he left. His mind was a perfect blank. To Mr White, of Hokitika, he stated that he heard from a third person that whatever stall Armstrong was in would have been burned. He could not remember the name of the person who told him this. Armstrong was the owner and trainer of another horse. There was a bad feeling between them. This was some time ago. Other witness gave unimportant ovidence, though tending to show the suddenness of the rise of the fire.
The jury, after a retirement of some time, brought in a verdict with one dissentient, that the stable was wilfully set on fire by some person or persons unknown. The inquiry extended over five days.
