WOOL SALES.

THE WELLINGTON SERIES. AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS. i Loan and Mercantile. The New Zealand Loan aud Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. and Reduced, reports: —The second Wellington wool sales of tho season took place yesterday,, wheu catalogues totalling about 26,000 bales wero submitted. The bulk of the avool was, as compared Avith that offered in December, of heavier condition, and many lots carried more seed, whilst medium and coarse crossbreds were largely cotted and shabbier. These facts, of course, had a considerable bearing on prices. There Avas a large attendance of buyers, and keen competition AA'as forthcoming from the Bradford and Continental sections, but the American clement Avas not much in evidence. Finer wools, as a consequence, Avere more adversely affected than course sorts. Lambs' avool was in keen demand, and realised good prices. As compared with figures obtained in December, avc consider course and medium wools Avere from a farthing to a halfpenny per pound lower, and fine crossbred and halfbred a half-penny to a penny per pound loAver. Tho folloAA--ing are the sales made by us of interest to your district:—G. Braddick, 9kl; W. G. "Waterson, 9 r d; Vennell Bros., 9Ad; G. E. Sargent, 9-Jd to lid; D. Fraser, 10 Id; W. 11. Dalgety and Co. Messrs Dalgety and Company report on the second avool sale of the 191:2-13 series as follows: —The Wool Brokers' Association ottered a total of 25,855 bales, of Avhich our proportion Avas 757.1, thus' establishing a record for the Dominion. Owing to the spell of dry AA-arm weather Avhich was enjoyed at the end of December and the beginning of January, farmers were enabled to complete their shearing, and avool was sent to Wellington by rail and steamer in such large quantities that the receiving sheds became congested—so congested that delivery was only obtained with the greatest difficulty, and the result Avas that brands became mixed, ami consequently it Avas impossible to obtain deliA-cry ot* portions of our client's clips in time to include in tho catalogue. We anticipate, therefore, that numbers of our clients will be disappointed at their clips not appearing in the catalogue, but as already explained, this is through uo fault of the brokers, aud avo hope that offerings at the February sale Avill moot Avith an equal demand. The aa-001 catalogued consisted mainly ofstrong crossbred and bush-stained wool, there being-very few light, bright Romney clips in evideuce. The attendance of" buyers Avas, as at tho previous sale, very large, and represented all sections of the trade. Local buyers were also strongly represented, and competition Avas keen for all lines offering. Prices Avere easier Ul to "fd as compared Avith the December saie rates. Lambs' avool was avoll in evidence at this sale, and was keenly competed for at most satisfactory prices. Notwithstanding the drop in tho market, a very satisfactory clearance was effected, aa-c disposing of more than 6000 bales of our offering, and farmers should be pleased Avith the results obtained. Priced catalogues Avill be distributed at an early opportunity.

Levin and Co. Messrs Lovin and Co., Ltd., report: —The total offering yesterday was 25,----914 bales, our catalogue representing 6075 bales. Wo had many of the best clips of the province for sale, and our catalogue attracted considerable attention from buyers. There was again a large attendance of buyers, and competition continued keen. Many of our best lots Avorc taken from America, at prices equal to sale of last December, viz.: CKB over Tawaha a clip from Featherston, at l.'S.d, Ksd, and 12. T d, this clip topping tho sale of the day. The AL in diamond clip from Marlborough brought l.d and 12d, and Rawhitiroa from Greatford and Broadlands from Palmerston each. W. McL from Martinborough 12.d, 12d, and 1.1 Ad, and Turanganui from Featherston 12.1 d, 12d and lid. Many other clips reached to the neighbourhood of lid, practically on a par Avith last sale, taking condition into consideration. For loAver grade wools suitable only for Bradford the fall may be put at. }d per lb. Lambs' avool sold avcll at prices ranging up to llifd. Pieces Avere hd easier. Altogether tho» sale was an eminently satisfactory one, especially in vieAv of an undoubtedly easier feeling amongst buyers. We cleared the bulk of our offering.
