A HERO'S DEATH.
DEFENDER OF RORKE'S DRIFT. Press Association —Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Wednesday. The death is announced of Fred Hitch, V.C., a hero of Rorke's Drift. On January 22nd and 23rd, 1879, a hundred white men were hemmed in by 4000 Zulus at itorke 's Drift. Elated at their recent success at IsandlAA T ana, the savages fiercely attacked the handful of defenders, but though their only protection Avas a couple of clay-built houses the whites held out till help The hospital, containing thirty-five sick and wounded, Avas fired by the Zulus, and three men, one of Avhom was Hitch, rescued six men when the building AA r as stormed by the attackers.
