Tho Government's' predicament through tho shortage of money has produced further wholesale dismissals.
Five'hundred employees of the Water Board have been dismissed. The board, which has expended £80,000 in tho past four months, has ben informed that only £75,000 is available for the remaining eight months of the year.
Possibly another 500 dismissals will be necessary.
The board's employees at present to tal 200,000.
Owing to the shortage of money, the railway Commissioner has been instructed to re-arrange his estimates, reducing them by over £1,000,000. It is deemed advisable not to interfere with railway w r orks proper, but many proposed improvements and additions will bo shelved.
