BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Borough Council as a committee of the whole was held last evening, there being present: the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradiue), and Crs. O'Leary, Elliott, • Temple, Flanagan, Candy, Pragnell, Ewington, Prentice, and Donald. A deputation consisting of Messrs T. Jordan, and E. Collinge, waited on the Borough Council in reference to securing the Park Oval for cricket. Mr Jordan said that on behalf of the only existing clubs (Masterton and Carlton) belonging to the old Cricket Council he was prepared to offer the Council £5 as rent for the past two years. A new Cricket Council had been formed, and he made an offer of £1 per Club for the use of the oval for the season, there being four clubs locally. The expenses in connection with playing cricket were very heavy, and-difficulty was experienced in collecting subs, and he asked the Council to deal with them as lightly as possible. Mr Collinge, on behalf of the Thursday Clubs, said that the Clubs could only pay a nominal fee; a heavy subscription would kill them. Cr Ewington moved, and Cr. Flanagan seconded, that the offer of £o in satisfaction of the past two years rent be accepted. The motion was carried. Cr. Pragnell moved that the four clubs be charged £2 each per year.
