VOTES FOR WOMEN.
AMENDMENT REJECTED,
Press Association—Electrln- Telegraph—-Copyright. (Received Wednesday, at 11 a.m.) LONDON, Tuesday. " In Committee on the Homo Rule Bill, Air Snowden moved that votes should be given to tho women of Ireland on the basis of tho local Government register.
Mr Redmond urged that the matter should be left to the Irish Parliament.
Mr Balfour and Mr Ramsay Maedonald supported the amendment.
Mr Asquith replied that there was no precedent for conferring the franchise on women in connection with the grant of self-Government to a dominion, and he re-echoed Mr Redmond's.opinion.
The amendment was defeated by 314 votes to 141.
